Swedish Orphan Biovitrum is a Swedish based niche specialty pharmaceutical company with an international market presence.

The company is focused on providing and developing specialist pharmaceuticals for rare disease patients with high medical needs. The portfolio consists of about 60 marketed products and an emerging late stage clinical development pipe-line. Our focus areas are: hemophilia, autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases and cancer supportive care.

Swedish Orphan Biovitrum had pro-forma revenues 2009e of about 2 BSEK and approximately 500 employees. The head office is located in Sweden and the share (STO:SOBI ) is listed on NASDAQ OMX Stockholm.

Sales and Marketing
Swedish Orphan Biovitrum is currently promoting proprietary products internationally, i.e. in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, and a portfolio of prescription specialist products in the Nordic countries in collaboration with Pfizer, Amgen and other selected pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Going forward, we intend to commercialize additional partnered products as well as products developed from our own project portfolio.

Research and development
We develop protein pharmaceuticals for specialist care all the way to launching, marketing and sales through our own organization.

Our operations are based on extensive experience in research and pharmaceutical development. Several of Biovitrum’s scientists were pioneers in biotechnology and protein drug process development.

We have in-house research operations including cutting-edge expertise in the fields of hematology, autoimmune diseases/inflammation and malabsorption related to specialist care. The influx of new projects from our own research is complemented by strategic acquisitions, partnerships and alliances. Our project portfolio includes several projects in late clinical phases.

Partnering
We are looking for collaboration opportunities in specialist pharmaceuticals.

We are looking for drugs in specialist care for in-licensing. We offer comprehensive expertise from contact with authorities, clinical trials, brand development and medical marketing.

Protein Pharmaceuticals
Biopharmaceuticals have profound expertise in protein therapeutic development, from cell line development through formulation design to manufacturing for preclinical, clinical and commercial supply. Our operations are based on strong commitment, scientific credibility and exceptional regulatory experience (e.g. EMEA, FDA). Our current partners are active in Europe and the US. Biovitrum is the sole global manufacturer of the active substance in Pfizer's ReFacto AF®, a protein used for treatment of hemophilia.

New mindsets and commitment
We encourage an environment where good ideas and engagement are rewarded and have built an organization where decision-making paths are short. Our success is based on the dynamics of this culture and the partnerships we establish.

We are always open to discussions on innovative ideas and are keen to establish alliances with others to develop new pharmaceuticals that can give people a better life and thus generate lasting value.

CEO comments from the latest Interim Report:
“2009 was a very successful and active year for Biovitrum. Our revenues before licensing revenues grew strongly and I am pleased that the operating profit was in line with our guidance, demonstrating a turn around into a profitable business. The positive progression of our clinical projects is also exciting as well as the fact that we were successful in out-licensing and divestment of the remaining non core R&D projects and operations. Finally, the acquisition of Swedish Orphan was a significant achievement. The new company, Swedish Orphan Biovitrum, will have a diverse product portfolio and an interesting late stage project pipe-line within rare diseases. I am personally committed to deliver future profitable growth reaching our 2015 business target of more than SEK 5 B in revenues and an EBITA margin of at least 30% based on the existing product/project range but also by adding new business opportunities to the company”
